The Herbal Medicine

Pat brings the highest quality herbal medicine to her clients by using the highest quality herbal medicine available to practitioners in her formulae. She sources her ingredients from companies that have the expertise to source and manufacture the best quality products. - Medi-Herb Australia and PhytoMed in NZ.

The Practitioner

Pat graduated from Naturecare College in Sydney in 1986 and has had 23 years clincal experience as a medical herbalist. She generally prefers to have a full consultation  in order to take a client's case. If she considers that herbal medicine is the best option for her client she prescribes the required herbs, then mixes the herbal extracts into a formula specific for each client's health problem.

How do Herbs work?

Medicinal herbs are plants which contain chemicals which have a therapeutic effect in humans and animals. Humans and animals have used medicinal plants for thousands of years. In more recent times we have had access to much research which backs up most of what has been known by our ancestors.

Medical Herbalists choose a specific herb based on whether they require a stimulant, a demulcent, a hormone balancer, a detoxifying herb, a nervine to calm, a digestive normaliser and so on. Although we may use a single herb at times for a particular job, mostly we combine herbs together. Many herbs will enhance the effectiveness of other herbs in the mix.

In herbal medicine it is the chemistry of the plant which gives the therapeutic action. Unlike pharmaceutical medicine, the whole range of chemicals in the plant or the desired part of the plant (stem, leaf etc) is used. This way any undesirable chemicals (side effects) are buffered or cancelled out by other chemicals present in the plant.  Click here to view our catalogue.

What conditions can Herbal Medicine help?

Medicinal herbs are used to encourage the body's own healing processes. Very often illness has occurred because the body's normal healing processes have been interrupted or their efficiency is reduced. Pat uses the consultation to evaluate and understand where these blocks have occurred.

This means that there is a potential for herbal medicine to be able to assist with almost any health problem, by supporting the normal functioning of the body. In many cases a health problem can be completely resolved. In other cases herbs can be used to alleviate pain and discomfort and/or improve functioning. She is happy to work alongside the client's doctors and specialists and the pharmaceuticals prescribed by them.

Pat has years of experience working with people who have arthritis, migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome, immune deficiency, acute infections, hormonal imbalances, chronic stress, post viral syndrome, some auto-immune diseases such as lupus and polyarthritis, thyroid problems, anxiety and depression, hypertension, dietary intolerances and children's health and many other conditions.
